Melbourne Now countdown – day 52

Melbourne Now page proofs
Publications and Graphic Design staff discussing the Melbourne Now ebook

We’ve been increasingly busy here in the Publications department – although there are less than two months to go until the exhibition opens, we are nearing the end of the production timeline for the four Melbourne Now publications! With the print date looming ever closer, the past few weeks has seen us finalising the details and making sure we’ve dotted our Is and crossed our Ts.

It’s been incredibly exciting watching the exhibition come together in the pages of our books. We can’t wait for you to be able to purchase the books and walk through the exhibition with the essential exhibition guide in hand, exploring the landscape of contemporary Melbourne art, architecture and design. It’s always rewarding to see the books morph from page proofs into the real thing – it never gets old, regardless of how long you’ve worked in publishing.

In addition to the print publications, we’ve also been working on a free ebook. We are constantly researching into the latest digital publishing innovations, and we’ve been given the opportunity to collaborate with some very talented graphic designers and developers for the Melbourne Now ebook.

The unique thing about the ebook – in addition to the critical texts included – is that it offers the artists and curators involved in the exhibition a chance to speak out about their work and the creative process in their own voice. Featuring video interviews and other interactive content, the ebook is also an evolving documentation of the exhibition. We will be adding content to the ebook for an update midway through the show, so be sure to keep checking the website for more details.

The exhibition guide and ebook will both be available at the opening of Melbourne Now. Not long to go now!
