Friday Nights at Italian Masterpieces – Teeth & Tongue

Teeth & Tongue

This week, Teeth & Tongue will take to the stage at Friday Nights at Italian Masterpieces. Here, we asked her a few questions about music and art.

Describe your sound in 5 words or less?

Experimental pop, hard to describe.

If your music was an artwork what would it look like?

Cindy Sherman’s Untitled #467

Who’s your favourite artist/artwork?

No favourite but I love Patricia Piccinini, Cindy Sherman, Rita Angus.

What’s your favourite gig you have played to date?

Probably an all-ages gig at the Metro in Sydney. Everyone was under 18 and no one knew the songs, but they were clapping along and going nuts anyway. Kids are the real music-lovers.

What inspires/influences your music the most?

Difficult decisions and unanswered questions.

What song do you wish you wrote?

Total Control by the Motels, but I think everyone wishes that.

What part of making music excites you the most?

The writing part just before you finish a song. You’re excited, you can see all the possibilities of what it could become. Once it’s finished, you have to reconcile your intentions with reality.

What can a punter expect from your live show?

Action sequences, moody bits, lots of microphones.

Tell us about the last song you wrote?

I’m in the middle of writing about five, so who knows which will see the light of day. One is called All Your Mortgages (but it’s not about banking), another is called Make New Friends With Magic. I’m on a lyrics trip. Which is good, because lyrics are hard.

The collection of the Spanish royal family formed the basis of the Prado Museum collection. If you could develop a collection including any artists past or present, who would be your top three?

Vivienne Westwood, Brett Whitely, Ryoji Ikeda
